Something just reminded me of...

What was it?

Yeah, maybe the breeze...felt like sittin by the river...

I don’t know.

Mourning doves.

Hear em now...heard em then...

Fire poppin...charcoal here...firewood then...firewood’s a better sound...real...

Yeah. I heard that. Hear it now. Heard it then. Sigh...and rustle of clothes...rough hands on soft skin...

His skin...then other way around...

Goddammit...memories are good and all I got...

Show me something else, Jack...

let me hear more...

let me see more...

talk to me...

what was it?

Yeah, I think so...

I'm starting to worry about Ennis' sanity. He's closing himself off into an ever-smaller world of reminiscence.

thanks for reading, Sid.

Maybe his small world is all he wants...for now...

Interesting perspective: sid is right on principle, of course. But I think that this haunting sort of recollection is needed as a reassurance that he's not going to *ever* forget, before he can open himself to the rest of his life.

Yes, I agree. I think that is all he wants for now.

There's a way that mourning goes; at least it was so for me. At first all one wants to do is reminisce and dream about the person one lost. It can last different lengths of time for different people. Then, gradually, more of one's present life begins to come back into focus. Then the loss seems to retreat into the background. I don't think it ever goes away entirely, though.

I was worried about Ennis being isolated for the rest of his life, and I was glad to see some fics in which he finds a partner, and is not so lonely. I like that he can find a little happiness sometime in the future.

thanks for this
