November 2011 Five Things Challenge

5. Asleep on his bedroll outside the pup tent, then hearing rustling noises and the
sheep moving around, thinking it might be a coyote, reaching for the shotgun,
when he heard Jack's voice, “Night's too fuckin' long without you, couldn't wait
til morning.”

4. The first time he made the first move. Jack had been standing by the fire
drinking coffee, getting ready to ride up to the sheep and Ennis had come up to
him so abruptly he'd knocked the cup from his hand as he grabbed at him...Jack
looking surprised, then he understood, but how he made Ennis wait...wouldn't
touch him until Ennis unzipped his own jeans, offered himself to Jack, then Jack
took over.

3. Laying in Jack's arms after just fucking, totally content, and how he thought to
himself that this was how he should feel about Alma, but didn't...and wondering
how the fuck sex with her could ever be better than sex with Jack.

2. How scared he’d been inside, the first time he went to Jack…and how quickly his
fear evaporated when Jack reached for him and kissed him…told Ennis it was all
right…and it was all right…as he surrendered, willingly, Jack made it all right.

1. How, after Jack had lassoed him and Ennis threw the sucker punch, Jack made it
up to Ennis, even though Jack was the injured one...had shown him more tenderness
than Ennis had known in so long, let Ennis make love to him...how Ennis wanted
to tell Jack he loved him, and couldn't...but he wanted to...

What is so psychologically captivating about these deeply embedded memories is the unifying theme of awakening that is taking place at the core of each reflection. How Ennis remembers not only how he learned to surrender his heart, but how he developed the ability to unleash his soul, as well. That to feel truly wanted and desired was about more than just taking. It was about giving and relinquishing control to another to achieve true intimacy and ultimately forgiveness.

Well done. Love, Debra.
