As Jack straightened up, he put his hands on his lower back and pressed, trying to ease the stiffness that was quickly settling there, while Ennis put the tools in the back of the pickup.

“We’ll ride the whole thing this weekend, mark the worst posts and broken strands, get the roll a wire and new posts. Never thought I’d like riding fence; sure is different when it’s your own .”

It was exactly what Ennis was thinking, exactly what he thought every day when he woke up, and when he was getting ready to end the work day…and it went further with him.

“Somethin even better,” Ennis said, as they got in the truck and he started it up. “We’re goin home.”

I love thinking of them going home and the thought of home in itself it can be anywhere but as long as you are with the ones you love it is the best place on earth. Joe
