His back hurt like hell this morning, took him a couple minutes before he could even sit up on the side of the bed, wincing and swearing every second.
He considered not going to work, didn’t seem to be much point since he couldn’t move without enormous pain, and sure wouldn’t be any help to anybody like that.
But then he started thinking if he stayed here and couldn’t sleep, he’d just be alone and thinking about things he didn’t want to think about.
God knew he couldn’t watch TV; did that once when he stayed home with the flu when he was still married and thought he’d put his fist through the damn TV, listening to a bunch of crazy women crying, or worse, he thought he remembered something about a woman who’d turned into a man...no, thanks.
Shuffling to the bathroom, eyes on the floor because he couldn’t straighten up all the way, he figured working through a little pain had to be better than that shit.
