If only..

He’d had a good day, though nothing special to most.

His back was a hundred percent again, no pain, but he was being careful...hadn’t had any bad dreams lately...at least none that he remembered...work was good and Wyoming was finally fully into fall, something he was glad to see.

Even Merlin, on their ride tonight, felt better in the cooler weather, kicking out with his hind legs, ready to stretch out and run...so Ennis rode him to a field and gave him his head...it was good for both of them.

When he got home he heated up some soup, ate it with bread and a bottle of beer to wash it down, tv on for noise...

He turned in early, bedroom window wide to the welcome cold air, pulled the covers up and shut his eyes, eager to get to sleep...if only Jack was here...
