Seemed like Christmas was only yesterday.
January had slipped by in a miserable mix of bad weather, too much work, not enough sleep. He hadn’t had much free time to spend with Ben and Megan, but made sure he called Junior every couple days to see how they were...he didn’t want her to think he was backing out of their lives.
The ranch had hired two more guys to get them through, and might have to keep them on until March.
He and Tim had a talk one day, the long and short of it being that Tim wanted Ennis and Mark to take over the round-up. That would include a lot more than just the original job of choosing horses. He wanted them to put together three teams: one for riding the round-up, one for taking care of the bunkhouse and the meals on the ride, and one to keep the ranch running. The round-up team would consist of Ennis, Mark and whoever they chose to help lead the dudes. Tim wanted to talk to Ennis first and get him on board, then he would approach Mark, and Ennis readily agreed.
Management had taken this seriously, and had sent out large posters of a beautiful mountain photograph taken on the ranch, to travel agents all over the country, along with the questionnaire Ennis had helped shape, and were amazed at the response they’d gotten...thirty two replies and requests for spots on the first round-up.
So Ennis had an assignment to come up with the teams with the men they had, matching temperament and talent, Tim would take the list to management to see how many more men they’d need to hire strictly for the two week round-up.
Then he would go through the ten questionnaires that had been chosen by ranch management to see what riding ability, if any, the men had.
This thing was rapidly becoming a reality and taking Ennis along for a new kind of ride. And it was coming up in just a few months.
If the weather held, the plan was to break ground on the bunkhouse in early March.
