Saturday the twenty-second, only three days to go.

He’d gone to dinner at Junior’s last night, Kurt was there for a change, and he figured while he had both of them there, he better shit or get off the pot about the damn pony, so after the kids had gone to bed, the three of them sat at the kitchen table and Ennis told them about Lucky and how he had it worked out that it wouldn’t hardly cost them anything and if it did, he could help with the money, and what did they think.

Kurt was more surprised than Junior, she had seen this coming a mile away and said as much, and she had thought about it and was okay with the idea.

She figured the conversation was over and was hurt and disappointed in her father, until she heard his next question, which caused her to cry and smile at the same time...and that was...what did Junior think Meg would like for Christmas?

Thank you! See previous entry for suggestion. It's cheap (particularly if you have friend you can hit up for freebies), but it's time-intensive.

Glad that Ennis did ask Junior about what to get Meg. I think I understand why she was hurt and disappointed then wanted to smile and cry.
No matter how old we get, in our minds, we are still our parents' child...
IMO, the little girl in Junior was thinking about how much more invested, more nuturing, more hands on Ennis is with Ben, her little boy.
Junior knows her Daddy loves her-but the little girl in her probably (unconsciously) wondered if Ennis had wished that she had been born a boy- that maybe he wasn't there in her childhood as much because she wasn't a boy.

Asking about Meg let Junior know that Ennis' love is genderless
