By Sunday afternoon the effects of the pills had worn off and he felt better than he had in days…back pain all but gone, as well as the remnants of the dreams…he remembered nothing of them.
These months…September…October…this time of year had always been troublesome for him…that Pine Creek time of year, he was always out of sorts.
For some reason, maybe because of all the good sleep he’d gotten with those pills, his mind wasn’t clouded with grief…for some reason all day he had been thinking about some of their trips, thinking of the good times…only the good times.

Date: 2012-10-22 05:16 pm (UTC)I wish to spend a word to suggest the possibility of a slightly less devastating development.
Imagine you have lost someone in a traumatical way, and can't speak about it. The only thing left to you of the person you loved is precisely the grief you can't show. So you hold on to it, hold it next to your heart, and build the rest of your life around that, using the extra-sensitivity of PTSD to prevent such a loss happening again to someone else.
It's not wishful thinking. I have rl proof that it's possible...
Thank you, morrobay and joe both, for the story and the discussion!
